PROGRAM:

Jane Flinn has been the director of Joyful Journey adult day care for the past year. Jane Flinn This is a Level 1 facility meaning that no nursing services are provided. The house is open on weekdays from 7:30 until 5:30. Clients of Joyful Journey are called “friends” and all are experiencing dementia in some form. It may be Alzheimer’s or one of the seventy different types of dementia. Those who provide care giving are able to have a respite while the friends are at Joyful Journey. This was started by Cathy and GERARD BENNER, a member of the Daybreak Club. They have been open for two years. The capacity is for twenty-five friends at a time, although they currently serve nineteen. The cost is $75 per day. Funds come from fees and grants. Health Savings Account funds can be used to pay for this care. The friends are kept busy with activities and enjoying entertaining groups who come to the house. They are certified as a “Music and Memory” facility, as we heard about two weeks ago. They have enjoyed the music that many of our members supplied by donating CDs. The friends also give back to the community by making blankets for the children in the Family Promise program. This facility serves an important need in our area.

ROTARY EVENT:
Lafayette Daybreak Club has invited all of us to come to the Toast to Mental Health on May 4th from 6-9 at The Trails. The event benefits Willowstone, NAMI and MHA. Go to: http://wedoauctions.net/daybreakrotary
for more information.

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY:
We are partnering with the Daybreak club to host a 16 year old boy from France for the next school year.  In school his favorite subjects are economics and social science.  Outside of school he enjoys playing rugby, and working out at the gym.  If you, or someone you know, may be interested in learning more about hosting our student for just two months or the whole school year,  please contact BOB STOLZ at 314.443.5375 or bobstolz@hotmail.com.

WELL DONE, ROTARIANS!
