PROGRAM:
For today’s program, various committee chairs talked about their committees and plans for the coming year.  Members were encouraged to sign up and join one of these groups.
LLOYD WEAVER mentioned that the students enjoyed the RYLA experience this year.  MARIELLEN NEUDECK helped by transporting them to and from the camp.  For the Campership Committee, June 2nd is the deadline for groups to apply for funds.  PATTI TRUITT and CAROL GALBRAITH will help with making decisions about where the funds should go.
MARTI GUTWEIN talked about the Major Projects Committee.  Plans are still being formulated for what new project our Club would like to take on.
CHRISTINE BURR is co-chair of the Membership Committee along with JOEL RASMUS.  The goals of the committee will be to recruit new members and to encourage current members to become more involved.
RHONDA OVERMAN is head of the Local Projects Committee with the goal of a volunteer opportunity each month.  This committee has been active this month with four different Saturday work days.
JACK KELLEY represents the International Committee.  This group has been involved with 24 different countries during JACK’s tenure because of Open World groups or grants.  He is still working on the grant for the Dominican Republic water project that was begun two years ago.  Thanks for your persistence, JACK!
RENEE FIGUEROA, as head of the Social Committee, mentioned several types of activities for the coming year:  Volunteer and Beer; Dinners with JANE TURNER; restaurant outings with KIM MOTULIAK; and the Christmas Party at KATHRYN OREOVICZ’s condo.
ARVID OLSON, head of the Music Committee, spoke of music being a traditional part of Rotary meetings because it can bring unity to the group.  Some members of the committee are no longer able to help so newcomers are welcome.
CATHY BARRON talked about the Backpack Committee and the number of opportunities to help there as well as the High School Scholarship Committee.  Learning about these students and their accomplishments can be inspiring.
LIZ SOLBERG and JOHN WILLIAMS, co-chairs of the High School Guest Committee, talked about how exceptional these young people are and how we want to introduce them to Rotary.  Perhaps someday they will become members.
VICKI BURCH, chair of the Rotaract Committee, said that the group at Purdue has about 30 active members and works weekly at the LTHC soup kitchen and also the Almost Home Humane Society, among other service activities.
After the presentations, members were able to see some colorful displays prepared by the committees and to talk to the chairmen about any questions they had.
