PROGRAM:

TIM LUZADER introduced the President of Vincennes University, Chuck Johnson. Chuck Johnson The oldest university in the state was founded by William Henry Harrison.  It was Indiana’s first land grant university and has had to go to the Supreme Court to maintain that status.  The two year residential school is based on the banks of the Wabash River in Vincennes, with several campuses and sites in the state and across the nation.  Chuck outlined several of the programs offered by the university, some of which involve partnering with high schools to offer students college credit; partnerships with industries to have a work based industrial model, filling the skills gap; and an arrangement with Purdue University to allow students who complete two years at Vincennes to be given space as juniors in their field; and to offer courses with Purdue Polytechnic.  It’s an ambitious and exciting place to be right now.  As Arthur Fiedler used to say, “He who rests rots.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

From Chris J. Anderson, CEO of the non-profit TEDTalks:  “Ants shape each other’s behavior by exchanging chemicals.  We do it by standing in front of each other, peering into each other’s eyes, waving our hands and emitting strange sounds from our moths.  Human to human.”

ROTARY WOMEN BUILD TEAM
This year our Club is sponsoring a team for the Habitat for Humanity Women Build project. We will be doing painting on July 12th. So far we have 5 team members: JO WADE, JANE TURNER, MARTI GUTWEIN, KATIE NIELSEN and RENEE FIGUEROA.  We need 7 more team members. Participants will work one day (8 hours) and raise $100 each. If you would like to help the team, but do not wish to build, we are seeking Supporters who will provide food on the build day and also raise $100. Men, your contributions are needed as well. Look for a pink sign up form and return it to Renee.
