PROGRAM:

LIZ SOLBERG introduced Tracy Brown, president of the Tippecanoe County Commissioners. Tracy Brown He serves along with David Byers and Tom Murtaugh. Mr. Brown has served 32 years in the area of public safety and law enforcement. He was Tippecanoe County Sheriff for eight years and started his term as commissioner in January of 2015. He shared with us some facts about the county and specific projects taking place. The county has a yearly budget of $45 million with 70% of that going towards public safety and criminal justice. There is $76 million being held in reserve as a rainy day fund. The most visible current project is the repair of the courthouse dome. This should be completed by October of this year at a cost of $3.8 million. Another current project is at 111 N. 4th St, which will become the new home for the county prosecutor and public defender. The commissioners manage the fairgrounds and preliminary plans are being made for refurbishing some of the structures there. The YMCA will be leaving that property so more space will be available. Klondike Road will be widened and a walking trail will be included in the reconstruction. A roundabout will be put at the intersection of Klondike and Lindberg. Morehouse Road will also be widened with a new walking trail. These and other projects are starting or in the planning stages. The commissioners have a wide range of duties and responsibilities.
