PROGRAM:

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski shared with us the status of a number of projects in Lafayette. To control problems with flooding, the final phase of the Sagamore Parkway project will be started this year. Mayor Tony Roswarski This will involve the closing of the intersection at Sagamore and South Street during the summer when most Purdue students are gone.  Because this is such a busy and important intersection, closing it will cause a lot of inconvenience.  However, the end result will include new street lighting, bus stops, trails, and safe pedestrian crossings.  The entire scope of the project takes in the area from Home Depot to Wabash National.  The estimated cost is about $17 million.  The Earl Road project had to be completed first to allow sufficient room for the storm water to drain from Sagamore Parkway.  Another big project coming up is the Brown Street sewer project, which is an extension of the tunnel that was dug a couple years ago.  These improvements have already prevented billions of gallons of raw sewage from going into the Wabash River.   Initial plans are being prepared for the new Loeb stadium baseball field at Columbian Park.  The Riverfront Promenade is a major initiative of the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation and work will be started this year as the Marq building goes up.  City and County officials are working together in other undeveloped areas to make plans for the proper infrastructure so that companies will want to locate their factories in Greater Lafayette.  Thank you, Mayor Roswarski, for focusing on long-range planning to enable our community to continue to thrive
