PROGRAM:

We were pleased to have Sarah Kurdziel, Aaron Campbell and Michael Ake from Purdue Rotaract share with us about their club. Sarah Kurdziel They have seventy members, with twenty-five active members. The group meets every other Monday evening. They carry out a large variety and number of volunteer activities. We are fortunate to have their help with packing backpacks on Thursdays and distribution on Fridays. Aaron Campbell They help the Columbian Park Zoo with their Boo at the Zoo event. They help other campus groups with the Winterization and Boiler Blast programs. Their signature project is Trick or Treat for Cans, which involves going door-to-door to collect canned goods on Halloween night. They participate in Relay for Life, which is always a good cause. Michael Ake The Rotaract members help the Almost Home Humane Society by walking the dogs weekly and also by making dog treats for the animals. The students serve as caregiver companions by visiting the elderly on a weekly basis. Another volunteer activity is bell ringing for Salvation Army. Look for one of them on Saturday. The Rotaract group is all about helping others through volunteer activities. We hope they will continue their efforts as Rotarians during their post-Purdue years

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION:
DICK RAHDERT shared that The Rotary Foundation was started 100 years ago, the same as our own Club. Since that time, a total of three billion dollars has been raised. Currently, $265 million has been raised during the past year, with the hope of reaching a goal of $300 million. Please consider making a donation before year’s end. This is how Rotary International is able to give grants back to our District.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

From former NFL quarterback, Tim Tebow: “Success comes in a lot of ways, but it doesn’t come with money and it doesn’t come with fame. It comes from having a meaning in your life, doing what you love and being passionate about what you do. That’s having a life of success. When you have the ability to do what you love, love what you do and have the ability to impact people, that’s having a life of success. That’s what having a life of meaning is.”

TIE AUCTION:
This is a “signature” tie received by past club president JIM KLUSMAN from past rotary international president RAVI RAVINDRAN. Tie Auction The back of the tie has a tab with RAVI’s name on it. It is the second such tie received as a gift by JIM, so he will offer this tie in an auction, with the proceeds to go to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Starting bid will be $100. Bids may be received in writing by email (jimklusman@gmail.com) or other written source (including on the back of a napkin), with the understanding that the winning bidder will donate the amount of his or her bid to The Rotary Foundation.
Bidding in writing will begin immediately, and bidding will end in a live auction during the Club’s Tuesday meeting on December 20. The tie will be delivered immediately to the winning bidder so that it may become a holiday gift. The winner will be asked to deliver a copy of his or her receipt from The Rotary Foundation to the Club Secretary as soon as possible.
