PROGRAM:

Jan Fawley, Superintendent of West Lafayette Parks spoke to us about the parks and plans for new projects. Jan Fawley Ms. Fawley came to her current job about two years ago.  There are thirteen parks that encompass 450 acres of land and there are thirty-two miles of trails.  One important facility is the Morton Center, which houses a number of classes and activities.  Tapawingo Park skating rink is another facility used by a large number of community residents.
A major event co-sponsored by West Lafayette Parks is Global Fest.  It was held in September this year with a large variety of food, music, and entertainment.
Several large pieces of public art are on display in the parks:  “Tapawingo Travelogue” is a piece reminiscent of a canoe positioned near the river in Tapawingo Park.  “Heron” welcomes visitors to the Celery Bog.
Ms. Fawley mentioned the drinking fountain that was installed in Tommy Johnson Park last spring on the occasion of our Club Centennial Celebration.  The park, and therefore the water fountain, is well used – especially by Purdue students.
Our Club has provided Little Libraries for the West Lafayette parks and two more will be installed, one at the Celery Bog and another at the community gardens at Cumberland Park.

MAKE-UPS MATTER:
Any Rotary activity outside of a Tuesday meeting can count as a makeup.  These are included in our attendance report to Rotary International and also contribute to the 100% Club published in Ripples.  Give the information of meetings or activities you have attended to Renee as soon as possible after the event.  Thanks for your help!
