PROGRAM:

Leslie Martin Conwell Leslie Martin Conwell, Executive Director of The Farm at Prophetstown, gave an update on progress that has been made at this unique facility. The Farm is a private non-profit entity that leases property from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources at Prophetstown State Park. It is a 1920’s agricultural interpretation center. Since she became Director in April of 2015, The Farm has seen an increase in visitors, programming, number of animals kept and crops grown. The types of animals include cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, sheep, miniature horses and soon they will have draft horses. Much of the programming is geared for children and many young families come out to see The Farm. Leslie mentioned specifically the help and encouragement she has received from our own MAURI WILLIAMSON, who knows quite a lot about farming. One ongoing project is the 1922 Sears tenant house, which needs refurbishing to open next year. The IDNR has put in a new entrance with a roundabout. The previous entrance road is being taken by the process of joining two lakes to create a larger lake for recreational activities. Leslie encouraged all of us to come out to The Farm to learn and experience life on an early twentieth century farm.
