PROGRAM:

Tom Day Tom Day, manager of the West Lafayette Golf and Country Club, spoke of improvements that have been made since he and his family purchased the property from the Elks in 2013. A lot of damage occurred because of a tornado in November of 2013. They made repairs to the clubhouse, replaced the roof, and cleaned up the course. The club is semi-private and family friendly. It is possible to have a social membership or full golfing membership. On staff there are two PGA golf professionals. In 2014 there were 18,479 rounds of golf played on the course. In 2016, it is likely that the total will be 23,000 rounds played. They started with 135 members and now have a total of 565. There are four golf leagues that play at the course. The clubhouse is used as a banquet facility and is booked for forty weekends in 2017. An attempt was made in 2014 to use the swimming pool, but there are major leaks that cannot be repaired so the pool will not be used in the future.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life.  You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots – but you have to play the ball where it lies.”  From golf legend Bobby Jones
