PROGRAM:

SONYA MARGERUM introduced John Dale – Democratic Candidate for U.S. Congress, 4th District. John Dale He began by describing his background and then proceeded with his stand on issues.  
 - As a teacher, he is proud of the public education system and dislikes charter schools.  He feels our taxes should support public schools.  
- He is in favor of renewable energy for several reasons.
- After talking to truckers, he feels a gas tax is preferred over toll booths to support maintenance of our roads.
- More needs to be done to provide returning veterans with the mental health care they need.
- A member of the NRA, he feels there should be background checks and anyone on the “no-fly” list should be prevented from purchasing a weapon.
- A trip to Seattle demonstrated what a living wage can do for the economy.  He would like to see higher wages in Indiana and across the country.
He concluded by answering several good questions from members.

JANE'S CORNER:
In case you missed it last week:

Semi-annual RI Dues per member = $33.50, including $27.50 per capita, and $6.00 for The Rotarian.  Last December’s dues added $1.50 for Council on Legislation expenses, $.40 for D & O liability insurance, and $2.71 for general liability insurance.
Current District 6560 annual dues = $32 per member

Highlights from the Club Board Meeting:
  *  MARTI GUTWEIN led a group of “newbies” who call themselves “Rubies” (Rotary Newbies), who proposed three service projects to the Board for approval.  All were approved:
•    Wabash River Ride/Food Finders.  Help serve lunch for the ride on August 27, six Rotary participants, 3 hours time, $0 cost.
•    Joyful Journeys Music & Memory Program.  Ongoing CD collection drive at to-be-determined Club meetings for CDs that help improve memory for persons with cognitive impairment, $0 cost.
•    Habitat for Humanity Lunches for Volunteers.  One Thursday per month, feeds 25-30 volunteers, cost $500 maximum per year (requires budget approval).
    *    Discussion regarding the Raffle was sent to the Special Events/Fund Raising Committee for consideration and recommendation.
    *    Location of board meetings beginning July 1st - CHRISTINE BURR has reserved space at  “Matchbox” for the next six months.  
     *    RASMUS was welcomed back from the Rotary International Convention.  He will report to the club on July 12th.   
     *     The Board thanked WADE and TURNER for years of service as they recognized that this is the last Board meeting for both.
