PROGRAM:

MARK DAVIS introduced Jennifer Wagner, Vice President of Communications, Milton Friedman Foundation, whose topic was “Educational Choice”. Jennifer Wagner She began with the basics. There are several types of school choices parents can make. Public, Charter, Home, Virtual and experiential. These can be paid for with vouchers, Educational Savings Accounts and tax credits. In Indiana, vouchers are used by 32,686 students. She believes that the opinions that should be heard are those of parents and teachers. Children are the only part of the conversation that is important.

Jennifer displayed graphs showing what parents would choose versus what choice is available. In Tippecanoe County ten percent of families are not happy with what is available to them.

There were some good questions from members related to transportation, the reason private schools are chosen and the Indianapolis school system.
