PROGRAM:

BECKY ROBLEDO introduced Mike Cooper, Managing Director of Imagination Station. Mike Cooper The organization began 21 years ago in a building donated by the Indiana Gas Company. The museum’s goal is to serve as a science education center for children; to excite females at young ages in the area of science; and to augment school STEM programs. It has connections with Purdue departments and groups, Ivy Tech and several local industries. Companies are interested in training local students to be future employees.

There are 2 full time and 2 part time staff members. Volunteers are responsible for staffing large portions of time. They want to expand the hours, take exhibits on the road and have more volunteers and paid staff.

Challenges include finding consistent volunteers (Purdue students disappear during the summer’s busy season); developing a strong operations budget; getting the word out to the whole county and surrounding counties.

The Entrance fee is $4 – Memberships is $75 for a family (which admits the family to other participating museums). Mike ended with the statement: Fire up Your Imagination (Station)!
