PROGRAM:

During this week, Rotary International suggests we focus on Rotary service, past achievements, and programs of peace, understanding, and community and international goodwill. Rotary 111th Anniversary Logo Today is Rotary’s 111th Anniversary, so it was appropriate to hear from the President of Rotary International. We viewed a video of RI President RAVI RAVINDRAN’S closing remarks for District Governors-Elects at a Rotary event last month. Our club is delighted that RAVI will be the keynote speaker for our Centennial Celebration and to share a sample of his thoughts. In the video he talks about the importance of perspective. How do you see the world? A change of view can change how we see everything? He described needing to arrange for a ceasefire in the Sri Lankan civil war, which was preventing polio drops from reaching the nation’s children. He managed to orchestrate a three day cease-fire, with the result that Sri Lanka was the first nation in that part of the world to be declared polio free. He asks us, as Rotarians, to be a Gift to the World.

(A quote that seems fitting during our election primaries and debates.)  From Winston Churchill:  “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.”
