PROGRAM:

CHRISTA KECK introduced Nick Schenkel, whose topic was “The Digital Presence of the Public Library”. Nick Schenkel The West Lafayette Public Library opened in 1922 and is a leader in book circulation. They also have music, movie videos and audio books – an aggregation of entertainment and information. Nick is famous for his book reviews on WBAA (which are available on line) and shared his recommendation for The Lady in Gold, about Vienna from the 1880’s to present.

Evergreen Indiana is an on line library comprised of options from 100 public Indiana libraries. SRCS has 160 libraries sharing collections on line. PDA – Parton Determined Acquisitions – is a program that encourages libraries to buy materials requested by patrons. When told that E-books will replace paper, he noted that 235,000 items were checked out last year. Only 19,000 E-books circulated, making it a popular segment of public libraries, like audio books. Freegal (Sony Music catalog on line) offers an extraordinary variety of music. At westlafayettepubliclibrary.org you can take charge of your account. The popular Little Free Libraries are a partnership between the WLPL and WL Parks and Recreation and are located in two West Lafayette parks. In addition to all of this information, Nick answered several very good questions from members.
