PROGRAM:

LIZ SOLBERG introduced League of Women Voters representatives,  Sue Scholer and Sherry McLauchlin, whose topic was “Redistricting”. Sue introduced a video which explained the process of drawing districts every ten years (after the census) and how it has been corrupted over the years to keep elected officials in power. Indiana’s legislature has established a commission to tackle redistricting. Software to draw maps is available to anyone. The commission is looking for voter input. Districts should be compact and contiguous, deviate from the population by less than 1% and can not be packed or diluted based on race. Following the meeting there were many discussions about the issue.

STUDENT GUESTS:
JOHN WILLIAMS introduced Karen Zamora and Adam Fields from McCutcheon High School.  Each received a certificate with the Four Way Test to commemorate meeting with us today.
