PROGRAM:

On a cold blustery day like today,Purdue Athletic Director Morgan Burke thinks of basketball. Before introducing Sharon Versyp, Sharon Versyphe mentioned that the cross country teams are doing very well. The football players are trying hard, but struggling to find a win.

Purdue Women’s Head Basketball Coach, Sharon Versyp began by telling us that the team made the most of it’s opportunity to have 10 practices and to play 3 professional teams in Italy last summer. The experience helped develop 8 freshmen and sophomores. She talked about introducing a new system of play – the stretch 4. The team is very well conditioned and physical.

Following a review of the players, she highlighted some of the rules changes for this year. The first exhibition game is November 8th. Versyp expects a fine season.

Purdue Men’s Head Basketball Coach, Matt Painter, is excited to start the season. Matt PainterHe talked about keeping the team and coaches on an even keel after a disappointing season last year. There are things to learn from losses. Defense will be very important this year – after being the worst in the league last year. This year’s team is bigger, stronger and quicker. He wants consistency making shots and defending the goal. After reviewing some of the 30 rules changes, he answered questions from the audience. Some of the answers: Kids get better during the summer, but they don’t become better decision makers. There are more games played now than in the past. He expects the team to be better than last year and thanked us for good questions.

Morgan Burke thanked the clubs for continued support of Purdue athletics.
