PROGRAM:

BECKY ROBLEDO introduced Eric Matteson, Plant Manager, GE Aviation. Eric Matteson This plant will be producing engines named LEAP and selling them to airplane manufacturers all over the world. This engine, co-designed with Purdue engineers uses ceramics and carbon resins to produce a fuel efficient, quiet engine with more thrust.

Matteson showed photos of the new building at 350 South and U.S. 52. It is designed to have space for community activities. He invited us to tour the facility. The manufacturing process was described – one that uses the latest technologies for utmost efficiency. The engines cost between $10 and $16 million and are expected to last 20 years. Four engines a day will leave the plant by truck, headed to Seattle or to Chicago to be flown to France.
