PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT JIM reminded us of the memory aid AEIOS, saying the I stands for International. From the Object of Rotary: “The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.” He referred to the RI website as a great source of ideas for international service. One is the Rotary Friendship Exchange, a program where Rotarians host each other in their homes. Jim and his cousin, a Rotarian in North Dakota, have had wonderful experiences with this program.

JIM introduced fellow Rotarian, CHRIS JOHANNSEN, who talked abut what he does for fun. Chris Johannsen He briefly talked about what he did for a living in Remote Sensing for agricultural purposes and as a land use extension specialist. Then he explained that he has participated in a WALLA workshop on writing. His experience had been writing scientific papers where an outline is essential. The first thing he learned is that no outlines are allowed in the workshop setting. Chris proceeded to share stories he has written about past experiences. One was about his father cashing a small check. Three were about trying to study and locate marijuana through his work at LARS. He concluded with a story about his brother and the antique tractor. CHRIS is a great story teller and has stories that his family will enjoy in written form for many generations.
