PROGRAM:

Today’s Club Assembly was led by President Elect JIM KLUSMAN, who began by pointing out highlights in the latest Rotarian Magazine. Jim Klusman The President’s message regarding Rotary Awareness led JIM to announce that he is working on next year’s committees, starting with the most important: Membership and Public Relations/Communications. He then presented the District’s Budget, which the President Elects will accept or reject at PETS in March. He reviewed the Income and Expense and asked for opinions to be expressed to him before the March Club Board Meeting.

JIM then presented a video about flying in formation. As a flight instructor in the Air Force, he taught beginning pilots how to fly jets. Part of the training was to fly in formation. The video showed F8F Bearcat aircraft being flown in formation. JIM explained why it is important to learn to fly in formation and some of the terminology involved.

If talking Rotary business in a Club Assembly is “medicine”, the video was the sugar (think Mary Poppins) and an interesting vocational moment from JIM.

JANE’S CORNER:

This is a repeat because not everyone reads Ripples every week.

You may be confused by the various fund raising efforts mentioned in the past couple of weeks.  After a couple of years of no International Projects, we have two in the works.  CAROLINE BRIGGS and the Pub Club group are working on a burn unit in LaPaz.  The dinner at Maza is to raise funds for that project.  JACK KELLEY is working with Purdue Engineering students on a water project in the Dominican Republic.  In order to receive matching funds from RI, we need to have $7,500 in the bank before they will consider our project.

The Monte Carlo Night raises funds for our local projects, i.e., Backpack, Scholarships, PALS, RYLA, Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE), and camperships.  All of these projects need your support and the fund-raising is designed to incorporate an element of fun while we’re at it.

Proceeds from Valentine Toffee sales are used for local projects and the matching grant with the Community Foundation increases our foundation’s endowment.   If you have questions about any of this, please ask any of the people involved or me.
