PROGRAM:

LIZ SOLBERG introduced West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis. John DennisDuring his eight years as mayor the city has enlarged to include Purdue University and strengthened ties to Lafayette. The new gateway to West Lafayette is U.S. 231. The old gateway, State Street, is about to be improved. With Purdue embracing the project, the improvements will create a sense of place, provide a cohesive environment, recognize the different forms of transportation, be vibrant and green, and have infrastructure to support all wishes. There will be easier parking, bike lanes and trails. The student population west of Grant Street needs a boulevard approach with more sidewalk space and designated bike and pedestrian areas. All of these elements are based on community input – students, business areas and neighborhoods. It will be expensive, but the impact will large and long lasting. The goal is to have the project complete by the 150th anniversary of Purdue University in 2019.

The Christmas Program description, on December 23rd, failed to include the fact that JOHN BARRETT wrote and organized the whole event.  His behind the scenes work made it a most enjoyable program.
