PROGRAM:

Tipp. Co. Commissioner Tom Murtaugh was not able to be with us today. PRESIDENT JO took the hand microphone and walked up to various members and asked a question. When she asked BOB VERPLANK to “tell us something we wouldn't know about you”, he said he was in the Boy Scouts and then talked about his 52 years of ringing the Salvation Army bell and how his concept of service started with the scouts. KEVEN JENNINGS was asked which was his favorite birthday. He nominated this Friday when he turns 50. JIM IRVINE was asked about his worst winter. Coming from Canada, he feels that none here are very severe, but last winter he was stuck in the snow for the first time. JOEL RASMUS was asked for his worst trip. He described a high school graduation gift of a trip west with his grandparents. What seemed at first like a real drag turned into a genuine gift to him and his grandparents. GORDON COPPOC was asked what he is most grateful for. His first response was his wife. Add to that an office with a window for the first time in 40 some years at Purdue! He then told a story about a trip to Miami, FL while he was a Sr. in Vet school. What a riot!!! MIKE BOEBINGER was asked who inspires him. He replied – Mom and Dad. He also talked about Boy Scout trips. JOHN TROTT described his favorite Christmas – the one where he got an electric train that was running around the tree. SCOTT RUMBLE mentioned his recent trip to Africa, shared with three other members of the club. CECIL BLIGNAUT talked about a 1978 trip to South Africa and Rhodesia where his plane was dodging shots from hostile forces. HARLEY FREY shared his birthday: 022220. Backwards that is 022220!

These responses started a buzz at all of the tables as members shared their stories. It was a fun program!

JANE'S CORNER:

ARVID OLSON introduced us to this song on a cold, snowy Tuesday:

Freezin' in the Snow
Lyrics by the National Weather Service, Music by Nacio Herb Brown, 1929

I'm freezin’ in the snow
Just freezin’ in the snow
What a frightening feelin’
I can’t feel my toe
I'm howling at clouds
So dark up above
There’s ice in my heart
And I just dropped my glove
Let the Arctic clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Enough with the sleet
I can’t feel my own face
I trudge through the blow
At twenty below
I’m fussin’,
Just fussin’ at the snow
