BETTY NELSON introduced, Dr. Will Miller, by noting how many Will Millers there are spread out across this country. But the one and only comedian, therapist and pastor lives in our community. Dr. Will talked about his stand-up comedy days while being a pastor/chaplain on the side. Details like being raised by nuns, opening for Aretha Franklin and 5 graduate degrees crept into his stories.
While talking about the cultural study of Thanksgiving, he drew from Ernest Becker who wrote Denial of Death saying nature is full of death; humans are part of nature; humans repress death in order to function; humans fear meaninglessness. The best way to cope with this fear is to engage in acts of service. Service is the path to health, attracting good things, including self worth and love.
Miller answered several questions and told some jokes. He ended by saying it was a wacky, happy talk!
