PROGRAM:

JIM KLUSMAN introduced fellow Rotarian BOB GRIFFITHS who delighted us with stories of his first 25 years of life. Griffiths Brothers He grew up in Oxford, IN with two talented, hard working, busy parents and five other children. His mom still lives in Oxford and drives to the hairdresser at 101 years of age! He had lots of part time jobs and always found time for baseball and basketball. There were several part time jobs, playing sousaphone in the band and teaching himself how to play rock n roll on the piano. He and his younger brother played and sang and were discovered by Al Stewart.

The Glee Club and other performances filled much of his time at Purdue. Bob Griffiths It was at a performance that an Air Force officer discovered him and offered him the opportunity to sing with the Air Force Bank, stationed in Washington, D.C. He described a typical week in service (Friday through Monday) and the many adventures of performing all over the country and in various parts of the world. We all enjoyed the three songs he played and sang which punctuated various parts of his singing career.

BOB closed by reminding us that not all was fun and games in the early 1960’s. He was fortunate to have been offered opportunities which he took and encouraged members to tell about opportunities that have come our way.
