PROGRAM:

GORDON CHAVERS introduced Indiana State Trooper Brock Russell whose specific responsibility is meth lab investigations. Brock RussellHe began his presentation on Meth Awareness be telling us that Indiana has the dubious distinction of being #1 in the nation for meth labs.  The first one in the state was found in Montgomery County in 1991.  He reviewed the methods of making Meth, including the ingredients needed.  Brock had several photos of meth users and what happens to the body after just a couple of years use.  He also had statistics on the number of children who have died or been injured due to living in a home where meth is made.  Legislation rescheduling pseudephedrine, making it available only with a prescription, has proven effective in Oregon and Mississippi.  He feels that Indiana would be helped by such a law.  The cost of meth to Indiana taxpayers is about three Billion Dollars a year.  If you have questions regarding this topic, please contact him at brussell@isp.in.gov.
