PROGRAM:

GORDON CHAVERS, Program Steward for the month of July, introduced fellow Rotarian VICKI GREGORY, Vicki Gregory whose topic was Trends in the Growing Aging Population. She began with an impressive statistic. A Silver Tsunami is about to hit our country. At this point 10% of our population is 90 years and older. The Baby Boomer generation is going to increase that percentage. Seventy percent of the elderly need long term care and there will not be enough room in facilities for them. Many people will receive home health care. Technology is going to be a necessary tool in taking care of everyone.

The Seven Aspects of Wellness are physical, social, environmental, vocational, spiritual, intellectual and educational. These can be practiced by anyone. Wellness programs are being added in most institutions. There will be a greater need for nurses, physicians and fitness trainers as the population ages.

GUEST:

Fred Rathgaber, guest of JIM TURLEY.
