PROGRAM:

STEVE KNECHT introduced Stacy Rogers, new executive director at Almost Home Humane Society.Stacy Rogers Adopt (or foster), Advocate for or Donate to help a homeless pet. The society saved 2,800 animals last year. So far this year 578 birds, bunnies, cats and dogs have been adopted. With a staff of 16 (one is a vet tech) and 100 volunteers at the facility of South 2nd Street, the organization has been able to save 700 more animals than the year before. It is funded by contracts with both cities and donations of items, time and money. Volunteers help adoptees as they look for a new pet, clean kennels, plan events, stuff envelopes and offer foster care. Donations are very important. Even donations of toys (milk jugs, egg cartons and paper towel tolls) are appreciated.

They microchip pets for a fee of $15. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. This makes returning strays to their rightful owners much easier.
