PROGRAM:

CHRIS introduced fellow Rotarian BOB HANNEMANN, who reminded us that May is Missing & Exploited Children month.Bob Hannemann It is the month when parents take time to talk to their children about safety issues and practices. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is celebrating its 30th anniversary. BOB showed us a DVD, which explains how the Center helps parents find kids who disappear. Each day 2,000 children are reported missing. Bob has been involved with the Center for 15 years. For the past four years our club has had a committee dedicated to the cause. Some of the goals of the committee include educating the membership, facilitating the work of the Center, developing a project as a prototype for other Rotary Clubs; and involving our Rotaract Club.

This year they have distributed child personal safety information through the school systems, distributed teaching guides, child ID kits and involved West Lafayette businesses by asking them to display a poster and distribute brochures.

BOB is working with Rotary International to address the issue of human trafficking. He closed with a poem by Helen Kromer.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:
They say when you are missing someone that they are probably feeling the same, but I don't think it's possible for you to miss me as much as I'm missing you right now.” -- Edna St. Vincent Millay
