PROGRAM:

BARB REIF, Co-chair for the Community College Scholarship Committee, introduced members of the committee, introduced John Laws and Pat Corey who represented Ivy Tech today, and thanked BOB VERPLANK for his work on the power point presentation. Out of 44 applicants, six $1,000 awards were presented.

Kelly Plank worked in a factory for a year.Kelly PlankHer experience there helped her decide to get a college education. She is studying nursing and hopes to make the world a little better. Kelly thanked the club for the support.

Bill Sudlow started life in Madison, IN.Bill SudlowHis past includes Purdue, the Marine Corp, Caterpillar and heart surgery. He decided that a career in nursing would prove most meaningful. He works as a vet tech part time to support himself and two children. Bill thanked the club for our work in the community and for the scholarship.

Jose Lopez arrived here from Guatamala six years ago. Jose LopezEven thought he spoke no English and worked two jobs, he acquired a GED in five months at LARA. With a full time job at Purdue and a part time job at a restaurant, Jose still finds time to study engineering. When he stepped to the microphone, he said he doesn’t have words to express his gratitude for the scholarship.

William Hady began his accounting education in 2012.William HadyBecause he chose a career other than the one his parents had preferred, he was asked to leave the family. He works at Purdue Federal and is headed toward a well rounded life. William thanked each Rotarian for the opportunity we provide students like him.

Katelyn Cole spent several years trying to rid herself of drugs and alcohol.Katelyn ColeHer experience there helped her decide to get a college education. She is studying nursing and hopes to make the world a little better. Kelly thanked the club for the support.

Eli Killian was raised on a farm and has 6 horses.Eli KillianHe is also a CPR instructor. But a nurse is what he aspires to be. Eli drives drives a bus, but that doesn’t cover the costs of living and school expenses. Eli thanked everyone, and especially the committee, for the award.
