PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT CHRIS introduced Isobel Stuart Miller who titled her program, “ Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot”.Isobel Stuart Miller She gave us a quick history of her favorite poet, Robert Burns, who died over 250 years ago. Although he spoke the King’s English, he wrote in the Scottish dialect, which made him the plowman poet. His ability to absorb life and then write about it helped him to write many poems popular with the people of his time and familiar to people of our time. Isobel delighted us by reading some of his work and explaining it as she went along. Although tall and good looking with dark wavy hair, he was not physically strong and succumbed to several health problems in 1796. The fact that he is kindly remembered hundred of years after he penned his works speaks to the power of his words.
