VOCATIONAL MOMENT:

PAUL ZIEMER grew up in Toledo, OH; studied physics at Wheaton College (where he met his wife, Marilyn); went to grad school at Vanderbilt in radiological physics, then worked at Oak Ridge. Paul Ziemer Purdue came calling with an offer to fill a position in the radiation safety program. That allowed him to receive his PhD and lead the department of what is now Health Sciences. His Rotary sponsor was TIP TYLER (also in that department) and later his boss was CHIP RUTLEDGE. He served as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Environmental Safety and Health in Washington, D.C.. When administrations changed he returned to Purdue. Now retired from Purdue, he continues to serve on committees at the national level, is active in the Purdue Retirees Association, volunteers for service projects through his church and is active in our Club.
