PROGRAM:

ARVID OLSON, Director of Development for Faith Ministries, walked us through the thought process and the physical buildingi of Faith West. Arvid Olson Since 1989 the church has offered a fellowship for Purdue students. They knew a structure would help facilitate the activities for students. When the old Family Inn site because available, the church met with the neighborhood and asked what they wanted to see in that space. They then went through the municipal approval process and received tax free municipal bonds to help with the financing of the 95,000 square community center. The main floor of the building is a large community space with an information desk, lounge, gymnasium, meeting room and fitness center. The upper floors are housing for students. There is a pre-school and park, which were requested by the neighborhood, Biblical counseling, church services, and a restaurant. The sculpture in front of the building is FE, “Iron Sharpens Iron”. Olson said that several community events have already filled the community center and several more are scheduled. This gift to the community addresses Faith Ministries’ mission to address community needs with compassion, truth and hope.
