PROGRAM:

TOM FREY, President of the Rotary Club Foundation, opened the Annual Meeting by giving the mission of the Foundation, listing the officers and directors, and describing the different recognition levels. Tom Frey The funds that used to be managed by the Investment Committee (a group of knowledgable Rotarians) are now managed by the Community Foundation. He explained the funding model (three year rolling average), noting that $18,500 was given to the club to spend this year. The current assets of the Foundation are $598,000. If the endowment were built to even more substantial levels, there would be less need to ask members for money to fund local projects.

TOM reviewed the history of the Foundation and Rotary Park. The Foundation was incorporated in 1973 (it is 40 years old!). Proceeds from the sale of Rotary Park in 1976 are used to fund $2,000 in camperships every summer.

Since January of 2012, $55,000 has been raised toward a goal of $100,000 in participation in the Community Foundation’s matching grant to increase our endowment. We have until the end of December to work on that goal – and the Community Foundation has sweetened the deal.

The Year-end challenge runs from November 22, 2013 through December 31, 2013. Until the balance of approximately $ 160,000 from the original $500,000 matching pool is exhausted, the CFGL will:
   a. Match 50% of every $1 for new gifts to the campaign, and
   b. Match 100% of every $1 for donors making a 2nd or 3rd gift to the campaign.

TO CLEAR UP SOME OF THE CONFUSION CREATED TODAY:
As stated above, a first time contributor will receive a 50% match (not 2 for 1).  BETTY NELSON encouraged members to give a small amount right away (even $5) so that after November 22nd the second gift would be eligible for the 1 to 1 match.

If you are contributing to other organizations involved in the matching grant, you know that you need to write a check to The Community Foundation and state the name of the organization on the memo line.  If you choose to do so for Rotary, that will work just fine.  If you write a check to The Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation, we will be sure that your contribution reaches the Community Foundation and receives the match.

JANE'S CORNER:

District Conference Report

Friday afternoon was devoted to inspirational presentations. After dinner that evening, JACK KELLEY enjoyed having his picture taken with cheerleaders.

CHRIS JOHANNSEN, LETA and JACK KELLEY, and JANE TURNER are returning from a break.

The breakout sessions on Saturday afternoon were considered well worth the time by those of us who attended them.
