SPECIAL PRESENTATION:
STEPHANIE KINNAMAN, the Gift of Life Chair for our district, introduced West Lafayette residents Sergei and Natasha Vasili, who introduced their family members from Albania. Luna Kosta was born with a heart needing repair. After some discouraging news from European hospitals, the Vasilis were put in touch with the Gift of Life program at Riley Hospital. Her surgery was on May 19th and today she is a very active, normal nearly nine month old. The story was covered in today’s edition of the Journal and Courier.

PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT CHRIS brought several interesting slides and stories from his recent trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Dick GraceAfter flying to Hanoi and spending three days on a boat in the Gulf of Tonkin, he had a close look at fishing villages, women who are completely covered to avoid a tan; limestone caves used during the war to store weapons, water buffalo working rice paddies and truck gardens. He showed housing units that are intended for several generations. He had a rickshaw ride in Hanoi that required nerves of steel; took a cooking class and watched the rice harvest. Working their way south to the Mekong Delta, he drank snake wine on the Mekong River. The trip ended in Cambodia, a country that has not yet recovered from the war. He saw tunnels used by the Cambodians during the war and the effects of Agent Orange. However, he felt no annomosity toward Americans in either country.
