PROGRAM:

PRESIDENT CHRIS introduced fellow Rotarian DICK GRACE, whose topic was “When to take the car keys”.Dick GraceHe began with quotes from caregivers and statistics that show that most caregivers are daughters between the ages of 55 and 59 who are often employed full time and have families to manage. Along with charts showing the financial and time commitment of caregivers, he mentioned that there are companies/services who offer personal care, companionship and nursing care, all for a price. DICK introduced us to the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living list and the Grace Senior Inventory to assess the independence of a person. The Senior Care Score, which helps to determine cognitive and physical abilities, is probably the most useful when determining when to stop driving. There were several good questions from the group and handouts for those who were interested.

Officer and Board Member Elections

Our Club Board has approved a new policy for the election of our Club Directors and Officers. This policy encourages nominations from our members for the position of Vice President* and any open Board positions. We will provide a Call for Nominations in early September for these nominations. A nomination for the election as a Director or for an officer would require the signature of at least three other members. Members may not nominate themselves. Persons nominated must agree to the nomination before the nomination is submitted. The Nomination should be received by our Executive Secretary no later than September 30th.

*Note: the Vice President will automatically become the President Elect and will be our Club President the following year.
