50/50 RAFFLE:

JO WADE and CHRIS BIANG asked DAVE LUHMAN to draw a ticket.  The owner of the ticket was GENE HILLS.  Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him so he received coupons from Dominos Pizza.

PROGRAM:

RENEE ROAMES introduced Giovana Zampoli, Rotary Youth Exchange Scholar from Brazil, who is attending Harrison High School this year.  Giovana is from Sao Paulo Brazil, which is in Rotary District 4590. She described her city and state, population 300,000, showing photos of the area.  When she was eleven years old, her father suggested she consider being an exchange student.  The idea grew, so that when she was a high school student she was able to take advantage of the Rotary Youth Exchange opportunity.  Learning about another culture, speaking another language, growing personally and gaining a better perspective are all good reasons to participate in the program.
Giovana described her host family (first time she has had brothers) and classes at school.  She participated in swimming and tennis, noting that sports are not part of the school experience in Brazil.  The award for Most Improved Swimmer means a lot to her.  It has been a year of many firsts:  holidays like Thanksgiving and spending Christmas in cold Colorado (in Brazil the holiday is in the middle of summer!); trips to Chicago; the Senior Prom.  During her time here some of her opinions have changed including what she wants to do with her life.  Originally thinking she would study medicine, she now wants to go into International Relations.
