50/50 RAFFLE:

CHRIS BIANG asked student guest Miles Demerly to draw a ticket. The owner of the ticket was CHIP RUTLEDGE. Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him so he received coupons from Dominos Pizza.

BIRTHDAY TABLE:
CAROL GALBRAITH, Birthday Table Chair for May, introduced the Rotarians celebrating another year this month and announced that so far $750.00 has been contributed to our Foundations. We sang Happy birthday in celebration.
PROGRAM:

GREG KAPP, chair of the Scholarship/Citizenship Committee, introduced guests today, who included superintendents of our school corporations, principals of our high schools and several counselors. He welcomed them along with the parents and the students receiving awards. After describing the criteria used to determine the scholarship recipients, he introduced members of the committee who, in turn, introduced the students.

LIZ SOLBERG invited Mary Kate Haan from Central Catholic High School to come forward while we learned more about her. Mary Kate is a member of Interact and her interest in health issues leads her to be a candy striper at St. Elizabeth Hospital and participate in fund raising for cancer related research. She will attend Purdue and go into child and family development.

BARB REIF introduced Kelly Wilkins from McCutcheon High School, who is an athlete, a mentor and a pianist. Her volunteer activities include St. Elizabeth Hospital and the YMCA Straight Arrow Camp. She plans to study at Valparaiso University to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

CATHY BARRON’s recipient was Juliana Newman from Jefferson High School. She is a musician and a scientist, winning the Special Recognition Medal for Women in Science Award. Juliana will study geochemistry and French at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, with the hope of using her education to help the environment.

BOB HANNEMANN introduced Christopher Park from West Lafayette High School. An accomplished musician who shares his music with many in churches and nursing homes, Christopher also is a champion tennis player. He attended RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) and received the outstanding chemistry award at the Purdue Science Fair. He will study biochemistry at Dartmouth with the goal of becoming a cardiac surgeon.

GREG KAPP brought Miles Demerly from Harrison High School to the podium. An athlete who participated in football, swimming and track, this young man is also a musician and a writer. He plans to study Civil Engineering at Purdue to provide safe, reliable, efficient design of infrastructure.

Greg closed the program by sharing some of the local and international projects of Rotary.
