50/50 RAFFLE:

CHRIS BIANG asked BOB VERPLANK to draw a ticket.  The owner of the ticket was FLOYD GARROTT.  Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him so he received coupons from Dominos Pizza.

EULOGY:
JAYNE FEATHERS had several interesting stories to share as she gave a moving eulogy for Francis Pritscher, who died March 21, 2013.
PROGRAM:

CHRIS JOHOANNSEN introduced fellow Rotarians RICHARD BARTHOLOMEW and DAVE LUHMAN, president and past president of the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation.  Their topic was “Putting the Plan Back in Planned Giving”.  BARTHOLOMEW began by explaining recent tax law changes.  As always, there was good news and bad news.  LUHMAN took over with several good ideas about Charitable Giving, asking what is your vision and values.  What do you want your legacy to be?  He then suggested that we build a comprehensive giving strategy, prepare a Giving Policy Statement, evaluate groups for possible funding, and review the impact of our giving. He also defined the difference between charity and social change philanthropy.  Relating that to our local foundation, BARTHOLOMEW explained that charity is our “Projects Fund”, while philanthropy is our “Endowment Fund”.   You have a say where the money goes and we can leverage your donation.  The Endowment Fund receives a 25% match on every Dollar we give from the Community Foundation.  We are 36.2% of the way to our goal of $100,000 by December 31, 2013.  He also explained that because of our connection to the Community Foundation, Charitable Gift Annuities and Donor Advised Funds are available.  No legal fees are involved.   RICHARD and DAVE answered several good questions following their presentation.
