50/50 RAFFLE:

CHRIS BIANG asked MAURI’S guest, Joe Halsema, to draw a ticket.  The owner of the ticket was BILL HATFIELD.  Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him so he received a coupon for Dominos Pizza.

VOCATIONAL MOMENT:
GARY SUISMAN grew up in New Jersey, the son of a dentist.  After receiving a BA in Economics from Rutgers University in 1977, he rose rapidly in the ranks of the newspaper business, working for several different organizations across the country.  In 1980 while working for a New Jersey paper, he met Jack Scott (J & C Publisher) at a Gannett event.  Twenty years later he became the publisher of the Lafayette Journal & Courier, replacing late Rotarian Dick Holst.   GARY is married to Kathleen and they have three children.
PROGRAM:

CHRIS JOHANNSEN introduced Gus Nyberg, Executive Director, NICHES Land Trust whose topic was “NICHES Land Trust Helping Ecosystems Survive”.  With his biology degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Gus became the first full time employee for NICHES in 2007.   He serves a 13 county area, providing access to nature.  His organization feels there should be access points to streams about every 10 miles.  The mission includes protecting habitat for wildlife, returning fire to the landscape to encourage native growth and habitat, maintaining hiking trails; and acquiring land where possible.  They have a Docent Program where they teach people about the organization at a camp out in Warren County.

HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS:

CATHY BARRON introduced Lucy Platt and Chris Shin from West Lafayette High School.  Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the 4 – Way Test to commemorate meeting with us today.
