50/50 RAFFLE:

CHRIS BIANG asked JIM IRVINE to draw a ticket. The owner of the ticket was President TERRY. Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him and he received a consolation prize.

PROGRAM:

CHRIS JOHANNSEN introduced Samantha Marie Paschal, a student in Agricultural Education, Purdue University. She is a National Collegiate Agricultural Ambassador and her topic was “Eliminating World Hunger”. She opened with the three rights: the basic right of food, a consumer’s right to choice of food, and the right of environmentally sustainable production of food. She then defined human needs and explained that poverty is the lack of these needs. Food insecurity exists in every county of this country. Our country spends 10% of income on food, compared with 33% in China and 46% in Pakistan. Samantha stated that by 2050 we will need 100% more food and we will have 70% less farm land on which it can be produced. She ended with a quote from Albert Einstein: “Your imagination is your preview to life’s coming attractions.” There were several good questions from members following her prepared remarks.

STUDENT GUESTS:

PAUL POST introduced Nikolas Ogg and Gauri Shastri from West Lafayette High School. Each received a certificate and a travel mug with the 4-Way Test to commemorate meeting with us today.
