KIM MOTULIAK introduced her friend Claudine Laufman, Director of Columbian Park Zoo since 1998. The topic of her presentation was “Shaping the Next Generation”. Starting with a little history, Claudine told us that the zoo originated in 1908, making it the second oldest zoo in Indiana. In 1939 Monkey Island was created. The “New Zoo” opened in June 2007. She presented the Master Plan Vision, developed by Scholer Corporation in conjunction with consultant, Dr. Dennis Meritt, past president of the American Zoo Association. Education outreach is a major effort, resulting in 24,000 people participating in educational programs last year. The Zoo is free, is considered the best Kid Venue in Lafayette and encourages everyone to get involved. You can contact the Zoo at 807-1540 or go to their web site at www.columbianparkzoo.org
