50/50 RAFFLE:

CHRIS BIANG asked DON GENTRY to draw a ticket. The owner of the ticket was TOM MORAN. Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him and he received a consolation prize.

PROGRAM:

BRIAN BITTNER introduced Dr. Rocky Killian, Superintendent of West Lafayette Schools. In answer to the question: What makes public schools (West Lafayette Schools) successful? The answer is Parachutes, Practice and Participation. Rocky says minds are like parachutes; they don’t work unless they are open. Everyone needs to learn more about education models to understand what works and what does not.

In practice, competency based education works best. Early learning, lack of poverty, equality in education all help produce better outcomes for students.

Participation is necessary to create a world class education system. He showed us the mission statement for the West Lafayette Schools and stated that standardized testing creates better test takers.

Rocky closed with a video that may be fiewed at RiseAboveTheMark.com
