GENTRY announced the
five projects for 2013-2014:
Backpack at
Miami School, High School Scholarships, Two Year College
Scholarships, RYLA and
PALS. Members
wishing to support these
projects may make checks payable to the Lafayette Rotary
Club Foundation and
indicate projects or a specific project in the memo line. Jewelry
made by ELSA JANLE
will be available December 18th.
This is
a great way to make someone happy and to support our club’s
local projects. RENEE
ROAMES gave us
information about our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Giovana
Zampoli, from
Brazil. It
would build good will and
better friendships if members of our club would include her
in one of your
family activities. She
would enjoy
attending a sporting event or a music concert.
Please contact her host mom at 838-5353 or jenileaird@gmail.com. It
is time to sign up for
ringing the bell for Salvation Army.
Saturday, December 15th will be a mild
sunny day, so spend
two hours getting to know a fellow Rotarian better by
partnering to ring the
bell. This
annual friendly competition
with Kiwanis to see who can raise more money helps to keep
the Holidays happy
for many in our community.
on-line or call or e-mail FLOYD GARROTT. Back
Pack needs volunteers
for December. Sign
up sheets will be on
the bulletin board. LETA
KELLEY announced that
the next Euchre party is scheduled for December 1st
at the home of
SANGITA HANDA. Please
contact her or
SANGITA if you can play that night.
December 15th is “A trip to the Opera”.
East Side Nine is playing Verdi’s Aida at
12:55 p.m. The
cost is $18 if you are
over 65. Dinner
at Nine Irish Brothers
at Tippecanoe Mall will follow the opera.
Contact JOHN BARRETT or LETA KELLEY if you would like
to watch the
opera, have dinner or both.
And the
Holiday Open House beginning at 5:00, Thursday, December 20th
is at
JANE TURNER’S house.
50/50
RAFFLE: CHRIS
BIANG asked ARVID
OLSON to draw a ticket.
The owner of the
ticket was HARLEY FREY who was sitting across from ARIVD at
the music
table!). Unfortunately,
the Aces eluded
him, but he received a gift certificate from Pizza Hut as
consolation prize. VOCATIONAL
MOMENT: STEVE
KNECHT introduced
DAVE SATTLER, President of Lafayette Printing Co. and
cartoonist for the
Journal & Courier.
He graduated from
Purdue in Industrial Management.
With no
art training, he became a successful cartoonist, with three
books of cartoons
to his credit and the 2004 Best Cartoonist in Indiana award.
He is married to Nancy, has four grown
children and lots of grand children.
ROTARY
MOMENT: CHRISTA
KECK reminded us
that November is The Rotary Foundation month.
The annual fund supports many projects around the
world. Rotarians
are expected to contribute
something to TRF every year to maintain these very
worthwhile projects. CONGRATULATIONS: RICHARD
BARTHOLOMEW,
President of the LAFAYETTE ROTARY CLUB FOUNDATION, presented
JACK and LETA
KELLEY and JIM TURLEY with Golden Service Plus certificates.
Thank you for your gifts, which make our
project possible. Photos to be
inserted at a later date. PROGRAM:
CHRIS
JOHANNSEN
introduced RICHARD BARTHOLOMEW, DAVID LUHMAN and BOB
GRIFFITHS to conduct the Annual Meeting of the Lafayette
Rotary Club Foundation.
RICHARD called
the meeting to order and presented the annual report (on
green pa per this
year), noting that the current balance is $495,486.
MORAN moved with a second by STUCKY to accept
the financial report. Motion
carried. Highlighting projects that the club has chosen for
2012-2103, MIKE PIGGOTT walked a bike around the room (PALS)
while BOB
GRIFFITHS played “Bicycle Built for Two”; GREG KAPP
displayed a college diploma
(scholarships) while BOB played “School Days”; and LETA
KELLEY waltzed a
backpack around the room while BOB played the “Happy
Wanderer”. Photo to be inserted at a
later date. LUHMAN asked for volunteers to help with visual
aids, enlisting KAPP and HYCHKA, while BARTHOLOMEW gave us a
preview of funds
available to the club in 2013-14.
That
amount could be in the neighborhood of $20,000.
He also explained that there are many ways to
give. BETTY
NELSON explained how a
charitable gift annuity works for her. As BOB played “the Magic Beanstalk Song” (written
by him), LUHMAN reminded us of the 25% matching grant from
the Greater
Lafayette Community Foundation while STUCKY, RAHDERT, HYCHKA
and KAPP
demonstrated beanstalks growing.

needed to be there! GUESTS: THANKS
