PROGRAM:

Rebecca Ryan, Community of Choice Report Ryan's (who is a former member of the Hungrian Professional Basketball team and a Rotarian) from Next Generation Consulting presented resultsin "From Good to Great: Making Greater Lafayette a Community of Choice," A 54-page report was built on surveys of roughly 2,000 people, the plan asks: What's good, what's bad, and what could be better? Her Madison, Wis., firm was hired by Greater Lafayette Commerce to look at the community's quality of life and put it up against that of a handful of other college towns. Young talent and the job market: "There's a sense among young talent," Ryan said, "that you can plateau out of here." The plan suggests figuring out whether the "career ceiling" is a reality or a perception. It also calls for doing more to support smaller businesses of 10 to 99 employees and to encourage "the region's entrepreneurs, hackers and makers." Chicago and Indianapolis connection: Embrace the proximity of the two major cities, the plan recommends. Ryan also said "be open, to change and new ideas, a lot of this plan is up to you, the people of this community." These are all 8 goals in the plan. 1- Greater Lafayette is a place for all people; 2 - Make Hilltop-to-Hilltop the place to be; 3 - Greater Lafayette = Green; 4 - Develop an after hours app; 5 - Retain young talent by increasing occupational options; 6 - Enhance connections between Greater Lafayette, Chicago & Indianapolis; 7 - Continually update, measure & enhance the Quality of Life plan; 8 - Create a dynamic "Town & Gown" initiative.
