50/50 RAFFLE:
CHRIS BIANG asked JOHN BARRETT to draw a ticket. The owner of the ticket was JOHN TROTT. Unfortunately, the Aces eluded him. He received a certificate from Mike's Car Wash as consolation price.
CONGRATULATIONS:

RICHARD BARTHOLOMEW, President of the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation, presented SONYA MARGERUM with a Golden Service certificate recognizing her contributions. Thank you SONYA!

PROGRAM:

The Club Assembly line-up was set in motion by PRESIDENT TERRY.

RICHARD BARTHOLONEW reviewed the Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation history and projects. The Foundation has distributed $800,000 over the years. It currently holds $400,000. The Matching Grant with the Community Foundation has increased the Endowment Fund by $20,852.24 so far. The Projects fund has about $1,200 in it to be spent on projects selected by the club.

DON GENTRY presented the cash assets of the club:
        6/30/2010 $128,000
        6/30/2012 $ 97,000
This drop is due to minimal fund raising and declining membership numbers. Projected income for this year is $47,798. Thirty eight and one half percent of dues is sent to Rotary International and the District ($97 of each member's $252 dues). As of 6/30/2012 the club's reserves will be $66,413. Since there is a policy that says the club reserve may not fall below $50,000, there will not be enough funds to continue support of current projects without a substantial fund raising effort.

CHRISTA KECK, speaking for the The Rotary Foundation reminded us that Rotary International feels it is important for Every Rotarian to contribute something (suggest amount $100) Every Year. Members who contribute $1,000 within ten years are recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. Paul Harris Society members contribute $1,000 every year. These funds allow Rotary to help people in very fundamental ways all around the world. Polio eradication, literacy, clean water and peace are some of the many worthwhile projects.

BETTY NELSON, standing in for CHRIS JOHANNSEN, outlined the goals of the programs committee this year and encouraged members to make suggestions. Any committee member (GENTRY, JOHANNSEN, NELSON, RUTLEDGE and WADE) will be happy to accept ideas.

JO WADE reported that the Operations Committee provides support for the Secretary. In addition to taking attendance on the computer and counting the money, committee members step in to write Ripples when the Secretary is not available on a Tuesday. A Director of Operations to oversee technical matters and assist the President is being considered.

ELSA JANLE, standing in for SUSAN HYCHKA, reported on the Satellite Club "Pub Club" which meets every Wednesday evening at 5:30, usually at Main Street Cheese and Wine's Uncorked area. It is an informal gathering, which allows members to get to know each other better and prospective members to see what we are like.

DICK RAHDERT reported on the backpack project. Last year we committed to 80 packs and added 40 more to the operation with the aid of grant funding. There will be a meeting in a couple of weeks to determine the costs and the actual number of packs the club can support this year. Volunteers meet Thursday evenings to pack and Friday afternoons to distribute the backpacks. All volunteers need to fill out the background check forms, which will be available soon.

ROB GALBRAITH discovered that only two members plan to attend the football game on Saturday October 27th. That means everyone else should be able to be at the District Conference, which will be at Purdue University on October 26 and 27. The fun actually begins on Thursday night, the 26th of October with our Harvest Dinner, an important fund raising event. The conference opens Friday afternoon and lasts through Saturday night. There will be important speakers, entertainers and a performance by the Men's Glee Club. There will be opportunities for home hosting. We want to welcome the Rotarians in the District to our community.

TERRY WEST reported that new member orientation is going well. He also reported that the Family of Rotary intends to continue the euchre parties, have a holiday party, offer an opera tour. He reminded committee chairs to report attendance at committee meetings to JANE. He also mentioned the Rotary Score Card (thanking TOM MORAN for layout help) as a way to keep a record of accomplishments through the year.
