We paused to remember former Rotarian Gordon Young, who passed away last week. Standing in for JIM HANKS, PHIL KLINGER read the eloquent eulogy for VIRGIL ST. JOHN that JIM had written. Members observed a moment of silence for both Gordon and VIRGIL.

JOHN BARRETT asked CORKY MITCHELL to draw a ticket. The owner of the ticket was SUSAN HYCHKA, who drew the Ace of Spades! She will receive a check for one half of the proceeds from the raffle. The other half will be used by the Club to support the Backpack project.

BOB GRIFFITHS, Lafayette Rotary Club Foundation Board Member, presented PAUL ZIEMER, KEN DECKER, and JIM CARNEY with Golden Service, Golden Service Plus and Diamond Service (respectively) Certificates to recognize significant contributions to the Foundation.

PRESIDENT ELECT CHRIS JOHANNSEN introduced fellow Rotarian LARRY HUGGINS, whose topic was "Living Aboard While Looping". LARRY retired from Purdue's Ag Engineering Department in 2005. A month later he and Lola departed by boat on the North American Great Loop, a 6,000 mile route that includes the Great Lakes, Mississippi River, Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic coast, Hudson River, St. Lawrence River and many other smaller waterways. Over a two-year period they traveled 18,000 miles at an average of 10 miles per hour, involving about 350 locks. They enjoy living on or near water, meeting and making new friends and exploring the historical sites along the route. LARRY shared photos of the 47' Bayliner that they called home, and several of the sights along the route.
