50/50 RAFFLE:
CHRIS BIANG asked ARVID OLSON to draw a ticket. The owner of the ticket was MARIELLELN NEUDECK. Unfortunately, the Aces eluded her. She chose a $10 gift certificate from Executive Dry Cleaners as consolation prize.

PROGRAM:

CHRIS JOHANNSEN introduced Angie Manuel, Interpretive Naturalist at Prophetstown State Park. She titled her talk Past, Present, and Future. Prophetstown is the newest state park, and the only one featuring the story of Native American history. To do this, the history of geologic formations, resulting landscapes, animal and plant life is told. The pre-historic village of Kethtippecanunk and later the village of Prophetstown are important pieces of the story. As a state park, management of the land includes returning farmland to native prairie, dominated by grasses and flowers. Prescribed burning helps to maintain the prairie. Resident animals include northern harriers, white tailed deer, a family of bald eagles and river otters. A two-part pool and bathhouse is scheduled to open next year. Plans are being developed for a cultural center. Angie encouraged everyone to visit the park. The picnic and shelter areas are superb.
