PROGRAM:

Incoming club President TERRY WEST introduced longtime Rotarian Dr. BOB HANNEMANN who spoke about an organization that he has been involved with for the past 15 years. The program began with a video that shares what the NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) does. It highlighted some of the areas it concentrates on and some success they have had. It also revealed some alarming and also some positive statistics. The US Department of Justice reported - 797,500 children younger than 18 were reported missing in a one-year period which averages 2,185 children reported missing each day. - 203,900 were victims of family abductions. - 58,200 were the victims of nonfamily abductions. Since 1997 the AMBER Alert program has been credited with safe recovery of 572 children.

Dr Hannemann has been trying to get Rotary involved on a national level.

Rotary told him to start small at his own club and try to grow it from club to club. The current project committee has outlined these goals. 1- Alert the members 2- Facilitate work of NCMEC 3- Develop a prototype for emulation by other clubs. The Purdue Rotaract is getting involved and hopefully will have a larger role in this work.
