EULOGY:

JERRY MCCARTHY presented a moving eulogy to celebrate the life and service of GENE COURTANEY.

BIRTHDAY TABLE:

DAVE MCGAW, May Birthday Table Chair, introduced members celebrating a birthday this month and announced that $1,300 has been contributed to our Foundations. We sang Happy Birthday to this generous group.

PROGRAM:

High School Scholarship/Citizenship Awards Committee chair, GREG KAPP, opened the program by introducing his committee (KAPP, CATHY BARRON, BOB HANNEMANN, ELDON ORTMAN, BARB REIF and LIZ SOLBERG), and informing us that 44 applications were received from 6 high schools. He also introduced Superintendents: Dr. Ed Eiler, Lafayette School Corporation; Dr. Scott Hanback, Tippecanoe School Corporation; and Dr. Rocky Killion, West Lafayette School Corporation. Principals: Joe Brettnacher, Central Catholic High School and Ron Shriner, West Lafayette High School. Counselors Kim Howat and Lance Wildoner, Harrison High School; Cheryl Wiles, Jefferson High School; Kathy Heckaman, McCutcheon High School, and Joyce Grimble, West Lafayette High School. GREG presented a slide show highlighting the awardees accomplishments.

CATHY BARRON introduced Ryan Holladay, a senior at Central Catholic High School, who was accompanied by his parents, Thomas and Louanne Holladay. Ryan has an exceptional GPA; perfect attendance; is a National Honors Society member; has participated in Academic Bowl; is involved in student council and soccer; plays in the concert and pep band; is an Eagle Scout; and works at Dog & Suds.

BARB REIF introduced Abby Newton from Harrison High School. Abby's parents, Sam and Denise Newton along with her grandparents joined us today. Abby has been team captain of the basketball, soccer and track and field teams. She is on the Student council; the Indiana High School Advisory Council; helps with disabled children's activities; works at All Fired Up Pottery Studio; has won several awards and plans to study at Michigan State to become an investigative journalist.

LIZ SOLBERG introduced Jefferson High School senior Chris Burgess, son of John and Wilella Burgess. Chris is an athlete, a musician and an artist; speaks Spanish fluently; participated in the Science Fair; is a member of the National Honor Society and his church leadership team. He plant to stucy industrial engineering at Purdue to make systems more efficient to insure resources are not wasted.

GREG KAPP introduced Layne Lumley, a senior at McCutcheon, and his parents Gordon and Shawnda Lumley. Layne has been involved in Future Farmers of America and 4-H; volleyball; National Honors Society and church. She was part of the livestock judging team that won "first" in the nation and will be competing in Europe. Ball State is where she will study elementary education; wanting to be an inspiration to her students.

BOB HANNEMANN introduced West Lafayette senior Carissa Pekny and her parents Joseph and Christine Pekny. Carissa is an athlete; Student Council President; and involved in church activities. She helped raise $25,000 for Hoops for Hope and has been selected to attend West Point Military Academy to study biology. Carissa wants to help others as a medical oncologist.
