PROGRAM:

TERRY WEST introduced Nick Palmer, Conductor Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, who began by telling us how much he appreciates community support of the Symphony. In it's 61 year history it has had five conductors. Each one has increased the artistic level of the orchestra. The musicians come from a wide area, with preference given to local talent and young people. Professionals from Indianapolis and Bloomington are needed to fill the gaps. Sara Mummey was recently hired as the Executive Director. The Guild, Friends, and volunteer Board of Directors provide a strong backbone for the organization. Saturday evening's performance features local guitarist Chaconne Klaverenga, who will play a world premier piece written for her. This will be a very special evening. In his review of the coming season, he referred to the new brochure (we are the first to see it!) and noted that each performance features something old and something new.

TIM'S THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

I found this quote to be especially thought provoking. Albert Einstein said that "It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure."
