PROGRAM:

TERRY WEST introduced fellow Rotarian, GREG KAPP, President and CEO of The Community Foundation, who began by bringing us up to date on Rotary Youth Building. Two students thoroughly enjoyed their weekend at RYLA in mid-March. For the five high school scholarships, 40 applications have been received. That committee has it's work cut out.

He pointed out that individuals give 90% of the charitable giving in our country. Thirty-five percent goes to religion and 14 % for education.

The Community Foundation is 42 years old and has given millions of Dollars in grants over the years. The investment return averages 7.1%.

The three-legged stool that comprises Foundation activities begins with Fundraising. To help organizations with their operating expenses, a four to one matching grant is under way with sixteen agencies/organizations. Rotary is one of the sixteen. There will be a Kick Off Party on April 30th to which we are all invited.

The greatest un-met needs appear to be Children/Youth and Education. Recently a grant of $75,000 funded a science lab at Oakland High School. Another grant of $25,000 funded a youth employment program offered by the Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club.

Leading Others is the third leg. Courses in Board Governance, Coaching for Staff and Volunteers, and Financial Matters for Staff and Volunteers are offered.

GREG'S Thought for the day is: Gifts to the Community Foundation are gifts to the Community.
